About the event

The days will be welcoming and informal – most of all we want it to be enjoyable!

The workshop will have some similarities, but will also have different content and various learning points.

People attending will have varying levels of experience and confidence, so the workshop will be aimed at beginners initially with scope for everyone to build on their skill levels in different ways.

We’ll begin by talking about watercolour, gouache and various other mediums and materials, followed by an exercise using some of these to gain confidence and explore some techniques and effects. There will be some guidance but also the opportunity for free expression and experimentation.

We will prepare some background effects to paint over in the afternoon.

We will be working on subjects from nature using what we’ve learned. We may introduce an animal, bird or insect to learn about painting details.

After lunch, there’ll be a demonstration looking at techniques needed to add detail, time to work on painting, with individual time and guidance given if needed.

This programme is intended to be flexible. I hope people will feel free to ask any questions and interrupt throughout the day. Relax and enjoy!
